Did you know that more than 90% of Madagascar’s original forests have been destroyed?
There are over 200,000 animal and plant species living on Madagascar that don’t exist anywhere else in the world.
This devastating deforestation is causing already endangered animals to be displaced from their natural habitat.
The native people of Madagascar are suffering the effects too, mangrove trees which used to stop the bare earth from washing away into the sea have been chopped down, making it really difficult to farm and live on the land.
This is just one story of the negative impact we as humans are having on our planet. Thankfully it’s one where you can really make a difference, helping the environment, tackling climate change and the lives of the local people in the process!
We’re working with Offset Earth to support the Eden Reforestation Project in Madagascar.
They recruit local people to help re-plant the lost forests, restoring habitats and offsetting CO2 emissions.
Their scheme has planted ~220 million mangrove trees so far and created ~2.2 million work days for the local people in the process, helping them to provide for their families again!
It’s a cause we’re very happy to support and with your help we have planted over 2000 trees so far!
What started as a Black Friday with a green twist has become very meaningful for us the more we discovered about this project.
We’ve decided it doesn’t stop here and we’re going to continue to make this positive impact!
It’s amazing to see forests growing and bursting back into life, re-establishing habitats for incredible animals.
We’re working hard to make sure that we minimise our impact on the planet in many areas, including CO2 emissions, packaging and sourcing ingredients. We’re continually improving & learning and we hope that together we can make the world a better place.
Stay tuned for more sustainability news soon because we’re currently working behind the scenes on some very exciting projects that we can't wait to share with you! 😊
